LANGUAGE:
The biggest barrier for students of two tier cities is the “proficiency in English” as they come from rural background with local language instruction from KG to XII standard. The sudden change in medium of instruction at professional college makes them unable to comprehend the subject, difficulty in writing the examination and preparation of project thesis.
The need to communicate in foreign language “English” has become the biggest barrier for students. Whether it is oral presentation, group discussion or interviews, it is a complete failure by the student to have not developed his language and communication skills over a four year period of study.

Unless students prepare themselves in personal development, personal skills like professional grooming, manners and etiquette, critical thinking, problem solving, time management, goal setting are not achieved to reach the next set of professional skills required to get into the Industry.

Hence students need to display their ability to organize group activities, social functions, technical fests, community outreach, seminars & conferences, team work and cohesive abilities in supervising and managing, getting hands on experience and exposure, to get employment with ease.
All professional jobs require leadership skills, hence companies would look at the attitude & initiatives taken, challenging situations handled in life, impact of their professionalism in the surroundings, being a role model where others emulate, etc

DOCUMENTATION:
Your participation and achievements need to be segmented and organized in a systematic and presentable manner, this could be in electronic or paper version which could be presented during interview for enhancing your chances of selection.
Normally all students would come with their academic reports, but when someone is able to show and differentiate through documented evidence of their abilities in cultural, sports, community outreach, leadership skills etc., it is much easier for the employer to take a decision rather than probing through questions to know more about you.
Solutions: 1) College recognition program certificates. 2) Distinction certificates. 3) Director’s club & Chairman’s club. 4) Photographs, Videos of your achievements in the four years.

EMPLOYABILITY:
Most companies use 70% marks in academics as a cut off mark for applying, this eliminates more than 60% of students even to apply for a decent job. Students who have 70% are allowed to sit for the aptitude test, which again is an eliminating process where another 20% students lose the opportunity. The aptitude test is more on the basics which most engineering students have lost touch and the speed to complete.
The remaining students are screened through Group discussions and Interviews where the language becomes a great barrier even though they are distinction students. At the interview level companies look at your profile to see your suitability and adaptability to the job, company and industry, hence it becomes imperative for the students to carefully prepare themselves for employment.
